“Total Depravity” esce il 26 agosto 2016 e segna il ritorno di Finn Andrews e soci.
Prodotto da Adam “Tom” Greenspan e Nick Launay (già al lavoro con numerosi artisti tra cui Nick Cave & TheBad Seeds, Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) che hanno curato anche la produzione del precedente “Nux Vomica”,
il nuovo lavoro vede la collaborazione di El-p (Run The Jewels)
“Over a period of roughly 2 years an album began to take shape. There is a large cast of characters on this record. L. Ron Hubbard, Axolotls of course, kind natured crocodiles, a psychotic truck driver, The Pope and Ingrid Bergman all get a look in. The songs are all stories of various kinds; some experienced firsthand, others fabricated for my own amusement. It’s the first time I’ve ever written songs using mutilated loops and sounds as a starting point, though some of the songs also began on piano and were messed with later”- Finn Andrews
Nettwerk Music Group è orgogliosa di annunciare la nuova firma con The Veils, la band neozelandese con base a Londra capitanata dal frontman, cantante e songwriter Finn Andrews. Registrato tra il Portogallo (Estudios Sa da Bandeira), Londra (Konk Studios), Los Angeles (Casa Lynch) e New York (nello studio di El-P), “Total Depravity” segna il ritorno della band con il produttore Adam “Atom” Greenspan e Nick Launay, entrambi già al lavoro per l’acclamato “Nux Vomica” del 2006. Greenspan e Launay hanno già collaborato su numerosi progetti, tra cui Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Band Of Skulls.
Il nuovo album dei The Veils vede la collaborazione del frontman Andrews con El-P dei Run The Jewels, in seguito ad un incontro casuale dei due in un bar a Los Angeles, incontro che si è poi trasformato in un rapporto di reciproca stima e collaborazione. Il giorno dopo, infatti, Finn ed El-P compongono insieme “Axolotl”, la prima traccia del disco. “The vocal was sung directly into the keyboard of a laptop and was all completed very quickly. I then began to work with the band back in London and recording songs with Atom Greenspan, some of which were then taken to El-P during breaks in Run the Jewels hefty touring schedule and then messed with them further. We were also fortunate to work with Dean Hurley on one song in La,” aggiunge Andrews.
Scritto e registrato nell’arco di due anni, “Total Depravity” è un disco dalle mille sfaccettature ed ogni brano è una storia. La copertina del disco è ad opera dell’artista italiano Nicola Samorì, noto per “sfigurare” e reinterpretare famose opere d’arte.
Last but not least, Finn Andrews è nel cast dei nuovi episodi della famossissima serie TV di David Lynch, “Twin Peaks”, insieme ad altri musicisti tra cui Eddie Vedder, Trent Reznor, Sharon Van Etten e Sky Ferreira.
