Tame Impala - Currents

La band australiana di Kevin Parker sta per dare alla luce il suo terzo album, Current dopo Lonerism del 2012 ed il bellissimo Innerspeaker del 2010 che li ha portati alla notorietà. In questo nuovo album Parker, che non ha mai voluto rifare la stessa cosa due volte, dice di aver voluto aggiungere elementi di musica dance.

Parker ha detto al Guardian di essere stato ispirato, mentre guidavano attorno a L.A. sotto effetto dei 'funghi' mentra ascoltava i Bee Gees. In particolare sembra che la canzone Staying Alive sia risultata psichedelica e lo abbia 'commosso e trasportato'

Qui le sue parole: "I was in L.A. a few years ago and for some reason we’d taken mushrooms, it must have been the end of our tour," he said. "I was coked up as well, and a friend was driving us around L.A. in this old sedan. He was playing the Bee Gees and it had the most profound emotional effect. … I was listening to 'Staying Alive,' a song I’ve heard all my life. At that moment it had this really emotive, melancholy feel to it. The beat felt overwhelmingly strong and, at that moment, it sounded pretty psychedelic. It moved me, and that’s what I always want out of psych music. I want it to transport me.”
